VENTURA COUNTY COUNCIL OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA EARNS PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL SCOUTING AWARD CAMARILLO, CA, FEBRUARY 16, 2010 -- On the 100th anniversary of Boy Scouts of America (BSA), the Ventura County Council of BSA has received the organization’s prestigious Centennial Quality Council Award.
- The Centennial Quality Awards program is designed to recognize units, districts, councils, areas, and regions in achieving excellence in providing a quality program to a growing youth population in America at all levels of the Boy Scouts of America.
 To receive the Centennial Quality Council Award, the Ventura County Council met or exceeded its requirements and goals in 10 different criteria, including financial growth, the organizing of new Boy Scout units (the Ventura County Council created 31 in 2009) which represented growth in youth membership (nearly a 2% increase in 2009), had a 71% retention rate of local Scouts, maintained more than a 90% retention rate of all local BSA units, and secured 14 new endowment gifts during the past year.
- “In the coming year we expect to see more youth involvement and financial growth with the development of our new promotional video program,” added Ventura County Council President David Hedman. “This translates into even more boys and young men in the county taking advantage of the tremendous opportunities for character building, outdoor experience and fun that Scouting provides.”
